Primary 1
Primary 1 has had a lovely first month at school. We have been very busy learning a lot of new skills. We are particularly enjoying our PE lessons especially gymnastics with Mrs. McGuiness. During the lessons we have been travelling in different ways and finding out how to balance on different parts of our bodies. A very important part of these lessons is learning to look after our belongings and learning to change our clothes. Mrs. McGuiness said we are really good at looking after our clothes and that we can change very quickly. We were so good Mrs. Dorrian put two lollies in the jar! During the lessons we have been travelling in different ways and finding out how to balance on different parts of our bodies.
Primary 2
As part of our play topic ‘the baby clinic’ Primary 2 have enjoyed sharing their ideas for the planning board. We have had lots of discussions about what we want to find out and what would be the best way to do this. First we asked our parents what we were like as babies. They talked to us about things we liked doing and playing with. With the help of our parents we made ‘Wonderful Me’ boxes which we brought to school for show and tell. Our classroom has a fabulous display of memorabilia of when we were babies. Thanks, parents, for all your help. We can’t wait until next month when Kubby are coming to school to show us how to make bottles and change nappies!
Primary 3
Primary Three love school soooo much, that we have chosen our first topic of the year to be ‘School’s Cool!’
We have been very busy planning all the things we would like to find out about school- some of our suggestions have been-
How do you become a teacher?
Who used to work in our school?
What did our grannies and grandads learn when they went to school?
So be prepared for lots of questions at home!
Although we all love our school, we have been busy designing and building our own ‘Ideal School’. What do you think about a school with a swimming pool, a hairdresser’s salon, disco rooms and even a rally car garage!!! Do you want to come to our school? In our photo you can see Rikki-Lei, Clare, Francis, Ryan and Connor have been busy building their ‘Perfect Playtower’- complete with slide, swimming pool, bridge and tunnels. Oh what fun!! Come on Mr Dorrian- buy us one of those please!!!!
Primary 4/5
Primary 4 /5 had great fun planning their first topic of the year ‘Mighty Me’ using their planning board. They had many things they wanted to find about themselves. They decided to find out what’s inside their body, how their body works and how they can keep themselves healthy. They recently enjoyed a visit to the Life Education Van and found out all about their organs and the different systems in their body and are looking forward to finding out more!
They have also been sharing their memories and created beautiful oil pastel drawings to represent their most special memory to date and are now designing their own memory boxes are looking forward to making them and filling them up!!
In PDMU they have been gathering adjectives and they described each other using the letters in their name. We are in the midst of finding out just how wonderful we all are !!!
Primary 5/6
The annual visit of the Scholastic Bookfair gave rise to great excitement in P5 and 6, as they were this year’s helpers. The perk of that job is that they were allowed to “dress up” in fancy dress for a day, as you can see in the photograph. As the theme of the bookfair was Ancient Egypt, the children started researching and finding out all sorts of gruesome facts about mummifying a body, pulling out the brain through the nose and lots of other lovely information! So great was the interest, that we decided that Ancient Egypt would be a great topic to study. Right away, we got started on our planning board, and are in the throes of making mummies, finding out about the river Nile and Cleopatra, and all in all, having a really fun time!
Primary 7
The Primary seven class are all back and raring to go!! What a strange feeling our last year at St. Mary’s!!! It’s hard to believe that we will be leaving in 9 short months. This year we have a new teacher!! Mr Dorrian and in the afternoon we have Miss O Hare who travels all the way from Kilkeel every day just to be with us! In the morning we have Maths, English and Religion. In the afternoon we have topic work, PD&MU and PE as well as a little bit of French and ICT.
In the photo you can see us using oil pastels to create wonderful pictures of Prince Henry of Portugal from our topic of famous explorers.
