Birdwatching P4 & 5

As part of our topic “Journeys” P4 and 5 had great fun at the bird watching lookout tower at Mountstewart. These new-fangled bird watchers were eagerly looking for Brent geese which were migrating south to Strangford Lough from Arctoc Canada each winter. After our bird-watching was over, we were given a talk about the geese and played a map game, co-operating and working in groups to find out more about their migration.

Primary 1

We have been very busy in Primary 1 this Hallowe’en! We have been hearing witchy stories and are having fun doing lots of preparation. Anna Davidson’s dad, Philip, who is a chef, came in to make apple crumble and tell us all about his work. Of course we helped him to make and eat the delicious dish, and Mr Davidson brought us a chef’s hat each! It was great, and we would like to thank him once again.

Jig Time

World renowned storyteller Len Graham from Mullaghbawn joined Tom Clarke and “Jigtime” in St Mary’s to provide us with a wonderful afternoon of traditional music, stories and dance. The children were enthralled by the feast of culture, and the musicians were both surprised and delighted, that some of our very own young musicians were able to show off their talent and join in with the professionals! Children from P 5 to 7 were able to play bodhran, fiddle and whistle, and also to perform a recitation. Thanks to “Jigtime” for a fun-filled afternoon!
