Journey of a Turtle
On Monday 23rd November Mr Dorrian, Miss O’Hare and the Primary 7 class set off for the Strand Cinema to see the fantastic, “Journey of a Turtle”. This was part of the Cinemagic Film Festival, especially for children, and was a very informative, yet enjoyable experience for all of us. And, it fitted in perfectly with their topic of Voyages of Exploration. A big thank you to our newly trained bus drivers, Francis and Kate!
Toys
Primary 2 are exploring the topic of Toys this half term, and as you can see from this photo, they are delighted to find out about old toys from their mums’ and dads’ day. Mr Dorrian visited the class to show them his Steiff bear and to hear all about what type of toys people had “in the olden days” because he didn’t know about that! Mrs Caughey put some of the very precious old toys into our big display cabinet to keep them safe, and the children were able to write labels to name each toy. They have had such fun with this topic that we’re sure Mrs Caughey will try it again in the future.
W5
The 17th November saw Mrs Caughey and the Primary 2 class setting off with Victoria PS Ballyhalbert, to visit W5 in Belfast. This was part of their SCRP project and they had great fun with their little friends from Ballyhalbert. Many of the children explored the storyworld of The Nutcracker, and were fascinated by the various settings, so much so that some made a return visit! There were lots of different types of play, from a Tesco style supermarket to scientific type explorations. All in all it was a very worthwhile experience, and the children all want their mums and dads to take them back!
Bingo
On Sunday 22nd November, St Mary’s Parent Group held their annual Christmas Bingo – an eagerly anticipated event! As usual the school hall was jam-packed with hopefuls, eager to try their luck. Our Bingo caller, Michael Corcoran was on top form as usual, and everyone enjoyed his banter throughout the afternoon. Winner of the top prize was Lauren Fox, and a good afternoon was had by all, as well as much needed funds being raised for the school. Thanks to the parents’ group, and to all who helped to make the day a great success.
