Water Babies!
P3 braved the deep this term, and headed off to Ards Leisure Centre for swimming lessons. For many of the children this was their first time taking part in swimming lessons and nerves were fraught to say the least!! However, within five minutes they were all in the water and splashing till their hearts were content!
The children did really well and all achieved a badge for Merit and Awareness in the Pool. Thanks to Joanne Clarke, Mairead Quinn and Sandra Smyth who came along to help us each week- we are sure they loved every minute of it- well they enjoyed the coffee anyway!!
First Holy Communion
On Sunday 7th June, at Mount St. Joseph’s Ballycran, Primary Four children received the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time.
It all went off perfectly!! Every child played their part in the ceremony with reverence and confidence. This was Fr Neeson’s first time celebrating this special sacrament in our parish- and no doubt it was his best!! The choir were again fantastic- adding even more joy to the celebration!! Thanks as always to, Mrs Maura Lipfird on the keyboard, Eimer Magee on guitar and Gareth Hinds on flute.
After the ceremony, everyone was invited back to St. Mary’s for tea, scones and the occasional photograph. Thanks to Hazel, the kitchen staff and the ladies of the parish who helped prepare and serve the food. It was delicious!!! Thanks to Amelda Gilmore who made the most beautiful First Communion cake for the boys and girls. They didn’t leave much when they cut it on Monday afternoon!! Overall the children had a super day which they will never forget, and the fabulous weather ensured it was just perfect for them!
Primary 7 – Final Farewell
Primary 7 said their final farewell to St Mary’s by performing their interpretation of the story of “Titanic” on Thursday 25th June. This was a drama which consisted of words, mime and dance, charting the history of the Titanic, from its building in Belfast, till its sinking on its maiden voyage. The dance was choreographed by Miss Linda Moore, modern dance teacher. Children added words and movements and this resulted in an evocative and effective performance. Parents and family enjoyed a buffet supper and chat, and it was, all in all, a great evening, which for many parents was their last involvement in St. Mary’s, Kircubbin.
