Mini Ministers Commissioned
Eight pupils from Primary 6 & 7 were commissioned as Mini-Ministers of The Word at a special ceremony during the weekly mass held in the school on Wednesday 26th November.
The Mini-Ministers have been entrusted with preparing and delivering The Word of God at the weekly masses in St Mary’s. The children will hold office until June 2009. As you can see from the photograph they are standing around a beautiful new ambo which was handmade and donated by Mr Leonard and Mrs Mairead Breen of Glastry. We are very grateful to them.
New Playground Equipment to Facilitate Outdoor Play
Several months ago Saint Mary’s applied to Awards for All for grant towards an outdoor play area for the children.
As part of the application surveys were sent out to all parents seeking their views on the play facilities available in the locality. We were awarded a grant of £10,000 towards the cost of installing the playground. As part of the application the Parent Support Group pledged £1,000 towards the cost of the project and the remainder was committed from the school budget. As you can see the Playground is installed and being well used. We are very lucky to have a facility worth in excess of £13 500. Parents are welcome let their children play on the equipment when they collect them after school. However all pupils must be supervised when on the equipment, which is has been designed to cater for children aged 3 – 11 years.
P4/5 McAuley Working With The National Trust To Learn About Our Locality.

The pupils from Miss McAuley’s class have been busy learning about their local area.
As part of their topic they have been working with members of the National Trust to study the migratory patterns of the Brent Geese who visit our shores every year. This topic proved to be very interesting and included learning across a great number of curricular areas. Following some work in the classroom the children went to the shore line at Greyabbey to learn at first hand about the Brent Geese. Later on the members of The National Trust came to school to carry out some follow up work with the class. Not only were they amazed by how much the children already knew, but they were very complimentary on the children’s good manners and attitude to their work.
