P7 First Confirmation
Primary 7 boys and girls were confirmed in Mount St Joseph’s Ballycran, by Most Rev Bishop Farquhar. The bishop was absolutely enthralled by the lovely music and singing, and indeed asked for an encore, for only the 3rd time in his ministry as Bishop! Everyone was justifiably proud, and the children and parents came back to school for a lovely reception, complete with balloons, goodies and photographer in attendance!
Rumour has it that the P7’s are going to invite His Lordship to our forthcoming musical – “The King and I”, which will be performed in June!
Back in Time – P5 & 6 return to Famine Days
Primary 5 and 6 became Time Travellers for a day when they re-enacted the story of Eily, Michael and Peggy, who were children of the famine from the famous novel “Under the Hawthorn Tree”. They dressed in Victorian clothes and met some of the characters from the book, such as Mary Kate, the local healer, Dan Collins, who was looking after the O’Driscolls’ cottage and the landlord who, after a lot of cajoling from the poor Irish mother and her 10 wee “weans”, agreed to give them the money to emigrate to America. We sincerely hope they make it, because the famine ships are notoriously bad places to be!
